Twitter Blue Subscription Service Is About to Get a Price Increase
The price of Twitter Blue, the social network's new premium subscription service, is about to increase -- a little more than 8 months after it made its debut.
The service, which launched in the US and New Zealand in November, allows subscribers to pay for features such as the ability to undo a tweet and read ad-free news articles. When it launched, Twitter Blue cost $3 per month, but that monthly cost is increasing to $5, Twitter informed subscribers on Thursday.
The price increase is only for new subscribers for now; existing subscribers won't be charged the higher rate until October, Twitter said in its note. Twitter said the price increase will go toward developing new features and improving existing ones in an effort to support journalism.
"At launch, we felt strongly about keeping the cost of the subscription as low as possible while we tested, learned and gathered feedback," a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement. "We've since refined the vision for this product, conducted significant research, introduced new enhancements with more in development, and as such we are updating pricing."
The price increase comes as Twitter is embroiled in a bitter legal dispute with Elon Musk. In April, the billionaire launched an unsolicited deal to take over Twitter for $44 billion. But earlier this month, Musk said he's pulling out of the deal, claiming Twitter breached the purchase agreement by failing to provide fundamental information about the number of spam accounts on the service. Twitter responded with a lawsuit to force Musk to complete the deal.
Twitter Blue gives users a 30-second undo tweet window that allows them to make revisions to their tweets before it's posted on Twitter. It also allows users to customize their experience with themes and icons and to organize tweets in a bookmark folder.
Some of the publications that Twitter Blue users can read ad-free include The Washington Post, USA Today, The Atlantic, The Daily Beast, Rolling Stone, BuzzFeed, Insider and The Hollywood Reporter.

Nissan Teases 2 New EV Models to Be Built in the US
Nissan Teases 2 New EV Models to Be Built in the US
Nissan really kicked off the consumer EV segment in the US with its humble Leaf electric hatchback. Since then, it's iterated on that Leaf platform but not gone all that much further until the announcement of the forthcoming Ariya EV SUV. Now, Nissan announced in a web presentation video on Thursday, it will be launching two new EVs -- one an Infiniti and the other a Nissan -- both to be built in the US at the company's factory in Canton, Mississippi.
The back end of the Infiniti EV sure ain't bad.
Nissan
Nissan didn't exactly dish on details for the two new models, but we do know that they're vaguely sedan-ish, and they have new-for-the-brand headlight and taillight styling. That's about it, but what really matters more than the details is that Nissan seems to be getting its groove back.
Nissan was, particularly in the 1990s, a powerhouse automotive manufacturer. It was perhaps even more focused than Toyota or Honda on creating new technologies and finding ways to implement them in cars that ordinary people could afford to buy -- and that's saying something. Fast-forward to the early and mid-aughts, and much of that reputation was gone, with the company churning out forgettable model after forgettable model with occasional bright spots like the Leaf or the GT-R.
Over the past couple of years, we've seen Nissan rethink a number of its core products, like the Altima and the Rogue, and turn them from also-rans into cars that we're happy to recommend. We're genuinely excited about the Ariya, and while Nissan is working with a more limited budget than, say, Toyota, it seems to be interested in offering vehicles that democratize technology and are no longer just rental fleet fodder.
Who knows what these two new models will be like when they arrive, or if people will even buy them, given that sedans are decidedly not in favor with the car-buying public these days, but it's about time that we get to be excited about Nissan again.

Best Chromebook for 2022: 8 Chromebooks Starting at Under $300
Best Chromebook for 2022: 8 Chromebooks Starting at Under $300
In terms of cost, nothing beats a Chromebook, which is all you'll need if you're a student who requires a computer for the basics or someone who just wants something to browse the internet on after work. These laptops run on Google's Chrome OS and are renowned for their portability, long battery life and affordability. While it may be tempting to splurge on a high-end Apple or Windows laptop, a Chromebook is probably all you need to get the job done.
Plenty of manufacturers make Chromebooks, including Acer, HP, Samsung and Lenovo. There are basic models that are fine for email, online shopping and streaming movies and music typically priced at $400 or less. Premium models start around $500 and get you more RAM and storage, faster processors, higher-quality displays and better build quality. You'll also find features like touchscreens, backlit keyboards and USI pen support for notes or drawing.

The Chromebooks on this list were tested and reviewed by CNET's editors. While there should be a model here to meet your needs, if there's a specific must-have spec such as an Intel Core processor, an HDMI port or SD card slot or a particular screen size, you might want to dig deeper into a specific Chromebook on this list. Also, if you're considering an older or used model, be sure to check the auto-update expiration date for the model. The AUE is when ChromeOS stops receiving system updates and is typically eight years, but the date is not the same for every model
And if you're still not sure if this type of laptop is right for you, here's a breakdown of all that a Chromebook can and can't do compared with a traditional laptop. This list of the best Chromebook models is updated periodically.

The Lenovo Chromebook Duet is a 10-inch tablet with a detachable keyboard and touchpad. This Lenovo Chromebook's small size might be a little limiting as a primary Chrome OS device, though you can connect to an external display via its USB-C port. The Lenovo Duet is, however, a good pick if you're looking for an affordable Chromebook for pure mobility or as a secondary device that can be used in tablet mode. Its small size might be an issue, depending on what you're looking for, but the portability and the efficient Chrome OS make it worth considering. I wouldn't necessarily call it the best Chromebook on the market, but for the cost and convenience, it's not one to count out too quickly. An updated version, the Duet 3 Chromebook, came out in May. It features an 11-inch 2K-resolution touchscreen, faster Qualcomm processors, an improved keyboard (still included) and, unfortunately, a higher starting price of $400.

This Lenovo 13-inch Chromebook two-in-one is a better bet than the Duet if you need a laptop for all-day use. It has a full HD display as well as excellent performance and battery life for the money, thanks to an Intel Core i3-10110U processor, 4GB RAM and a 64GB solid-state drive. The Lenovo Flex is not a great Chromebook choice for outdoor use, since the display is pretty dim.
If you're looking for even better performance, this Chrome OS Tablet was updated with Intel's 11th-gen Core i3 processor but still has great battery life at nearly 11 hours. Now called the Lenovo Flex 5i Chromebook, it costs a bit more starting at $475. Lenovo also added a privacy shutter on the webcam so you can physically block it when it's not in use. It is definitely one of the best Chromebook models for the price, power and size.

If you'd rather have a wider screen instead of a taller one like the Spin 713's (below), this HP Chromebook is the way to go. It's roughly 0.75 inch wider than a premium 13.3-inch model, but that extra width makes it easier to work in two side-by-side windows. The two-in-one design means you can use the HP Chromebook x360 as a tablet (though it's a bit heavy to use as a handheld device). You can also tent it, connect an external keyboard and mouse and use it as a small all-in-one computer.
The Core i3 processor and 8GB of memory in the model we tested kept this HP Chromebook running smoothly even with a couple dozen tabs open and streaming video in the background. The Chrome OS will handle typical usage seamlessly. And this Chromebook laptop has a long battery life, lasting 10 hours and 40 minutes in CNET's testing. This is a higher-end configuration, though, and its regular price is $699. This laptop regularly goes on sale for less than $500, but if you like the design and don't need its more powerful components, the Pentium Silver version is a bargain at closer to $300.

Acer's Spin 513 is an update of sorts to one of the best Chromebooks from 2021, the Spin 713. It's a two-in-one convertible Chromebook with a 13.5-inch display that has a 3:2 aspect ratio. The extra vertical space means less scrolling when you're working. The screen size is also close to that of letter-size paper, making it comfortable for notetaking in tablet mode with a USI pen. Compared to the 713, it drops a couple of noncritical features like an HDMI output in favor of a more affordable price. It has amazing battery life, though, and a sturdy fanless design, making it silent -- perfect for quiet classrooms, lectures or video calls. Also, be sure to get the latest version of the Spin 513, model CP513-2H, powered by a MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor.

Just as Google's Pixel phones offer the best pure Android experience, the Google Pixelbook Go is built to deliver the best of Chrome OS. The premium Chromebook starts at $839, but fully loaded with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, 256GB of storage and a 4K display, the total reaches a pricey $2,299. That's a lot, and more than most people need. Still, the Google Pixelbook Go is an excellent little Chromebook, especially for those who really want to explore all that Chrome can do, including Linux and Android app selections.

There are plenty of convertible Chromebook two-in-ones, where the screen rotates around to the back of the keyboard so you can use it as a tablet. But Chrome tablets with removable keyboards are still a rarity. That certainly helps the Chromebook x2 11 stand out, but it also deserves attention for its premium design and features. It offers long battery life and performance that rises (slightly) above the competition. The main downside is that it's expensive on its own. But in the year it's been available, both HP and Best Buy have offered significant discounts, so if you're interested make sure to wait for one of those deals.

The 317 is essentially a portable all-in-one Chrome OS desktop, otherwise known as a Chromebase. The big display makes multitasking a breeze. You can stream a YouTube video in the corner while you work on a presentation and keep an eye on email or chat -- all without overlapping windows. It is big and heavy compared with all the smaller Chromebooks here, so it's not a great option if mobility is a priority. But it's certainly small enough to move around the house, and with more than 10 hours of battery life according to my tests, you can work all day and still have time left for a video chat with family, gaming or streaming a movie.

How we test computers
The review process for laptops, desktops, tablets and other computer-like devices consists of two parts: performance testing under controlled conditions in the CNET Labs and extensive hands-on use by our expert reviewers. This includes evaluating a device's aesthetics, ergonomics and features. A final review verdict is a combination of both those objective and subjective judgments.
The list of benchmarking software we use changes over time as the devices we test evolve. The most important core tests we're currently running on every compatible computer include: Primate Labs Geekbench 5, Cinebench R23, PCMark 10 and 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra.
A more detailed description of each benchmark and how we use it can be found in our How We Test Computers page.

Motorola announces $1,000 Edge Plus to compete against Galaxy S20
Motorola announced its latest flagship phone, the Edge Plus during an online event Wednesday. Though the company is known for its popular budget line of G-series phones (for instance, it just announced the Moto G Stylus and Moto G Power earlier), Motorola packed high-end specs to its Edge Plus, poising it to compete with Samsung's Galaxy S20. This includes a 108-megapixel camera, 5G and a 90Hz display. In the US, the Edge Plus is a Verizon exclusive. For more information, check out CNET's hands-on of the Edge Plus and its Motorola Edge counterpart. What follows below is our original post about how to watch the Motorola event.
When is the Motorola Edge event?
Date: Wednesday, April 22
Time:
9 a.m. PT
12 p.m. ET
5 p.m UK
How can I watch the event live?
Apart from the date and time, Motorola hasn't shared further details about how to watch the event, but you can probably follow along on its YouTube channel or Twitter account. If you're interested in Motorola's new marquee line, keep an eye out for reviews coming up from CNET's Patrick Holland.
What do we know about the Motorola announcements so far?
Ever since Motorola's original launch plans at Mobile World Congress were derailed by the coronavirus, there have been a flood of leaks about the Motorola Edge Plus. According to a recent report from XDA Developers, the phone will feature a Snapdragon 865 chipset, a 5,000-mAh battery, and either 8GB or 12GB RAM. We're expecting curved edges (as shown on the Motorola teaser video above) to feature on a 6.7-inch display. As for the camera system, rumors point to a 108-megapixel main rear sensor along with wide-angle and telephoto sensors on the phone's rear.
In March, noted leaker Evan Blass shared images of the purported Motorola Edge Plus, which show a hole-punch selfie camera and a headphone jack. The base phone called the Motorola Edge, is speculated to have a Snapdragon 765 chip with 6GB RAM. It's not clear how much either of the phones will cost, nor who will carry it, but there's talk about it going exclusively to Verizon.
Correction 9:47 a.m. PT: An earlier version of this article listed the event as happening on Tuesday. This has been corrected to Wednesday, April 22.

Beyoncé and Her Music Arrive on TikTok
Before Thursday, there was a Queen Bey-shaped hole on TikTok. Beyoncé has filled that hole with the arrival of her music -- and her social media presence -- on the popular app.
Beyoncé announced her arrival on TikTok with a compilation of videos of fans dancing, singing and reacting to her song Break My Soul, which she released in June. Now people can feature songs from her entire catalog in their TikToks, Variety reported.
Following the announcement, Beyoncé's first TikTok video, below, already has over 500,000 views, and Beyoncé has already accrued over 3.3 million followers.
@beyonce Seeing y'all release the wiggle made me so happy! Thank you so much for all the love for BREAK MY SOUL! - Love B —#RENAISSANCE #BREAKMYSOUL♬ BREAK MY SOUL - Beyoncé
The artist's arrival on the platform expands her already abundant social media following, with over 268 million Instagram followers, 15.5 million Twitter followers and 56 million Facebook followers.
In recent years, TikTok has played a significant role in the success of musicians. The platform has become a key asset for generating buzz around forthcoming albums and singles, and allowing artists to connect with their fanbase somewhat organically -- not that the queen of music herself needs any help with that.
Break My Soul is the first single from Beyoncé's forthcoming album Renaissance, which will be released on July 29.

LG is finally venturing away from its slim and ultralight laptop lineup with its first gaming laptop, the LG UltraGear 17G90Q. Not too far away, though: As with its Gram laptops, LG went high-end right out of the gate with this 17.3-inch gaming laptop and kept the laptop thin and relatively lightweight for its size at just under 6 pounds (2.6 kilograms).
LG didn't announce pricing but the 17G90Q is expected to be available in the US and South Korea in the first quarter of 2022. The laptop will run on an 11th-gen Intel Core Tiger Lake H-series processor with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics, dual-channel memory up to 32GB and a dual-SSD array with up to 1TB of storage. And as you might expect, LG used a high-quality display: a 17.3-inch, 1,920x1,080-pixel wide-screen panel with a 1-millisecond response time, 300Hz refresh rate and 99% sRGB color gamut.

The port assortment isn't lacking, either, with a ThunderBolt 4 USB-C port, a Type-C and two Type-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a combo headset jack, HDMI-out, Gigabit Ethernet and a microSD card slot. Other features include a full-HD webcam and IR cam for facial recognition, a fingerprint reader in the power button, a per-key RGB LED-backlit keyboard and Wi-Fi 6E from Killer Wireless. An UltraGear Studio app will be available for customizing your gaming experience, too.
While LG seems to have all the right pieces in place for its first gaming laptop, the price might keep buyers away. It's certainly one of the knocks we have against its UltraGear Gaming Speaker GP9. Likewise, LG's Gram laptops, though excellent, tend to be expensive compared with the competition and gaming laptops from established brands like Alienware, Omen and Razer are already pricey. But, this is definitely a gaming laptop we'll be keeping an eye out for next year.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is launching a revamp of its organization following criticism of its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky on Wednesday outlined a series of changes to the agency's senior leaders and staff that will prioritize action on public health needs and improve communication with the public. The agency's plans were earlier reported by the New York Times and Washington Post.
"For 75 years, CDC and public health have been preparing for COVID-19, and in our big moment, our performance did not reliably meet expectations," Walensky said in a statement. "As a longtime admirer of this agency and a champion for public health, I want us all to do better."
A briefing document on the changes described the CDC's response to the pandemic as "confusing and overwhelming," according to The New York Times. It also reportedly calls for the agency to focus "data for action" instead of publication and says guidance to the public should be "easy to understand."
The changes, which will be implemented over the coming months, stem from a review of the agency's structure, systems and processes that Walensky ordered in April.
The CDC has faced criticism throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, on everything from coronavirus testing to guidance on masking and other safety measures. More than 1 million people in the US have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began over two years ago. The Biden administration is reportedly working create a new division within the Department of Health and Human Services, which would work alongside the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, to lead US pandemic response.
